Good News! A New Book

writerAfter many weeks of writing and revising, I am happy to announce that I have a completed manuscript of the companion novella that I’ve been working on. It’s set roughly six months after the end of Wake, on Thanksgiving weekend (Thanksgiving being in October in Canada). The title is — wait for it — Love Among Pigeons.

I know you’re all picturing rats with wings right now, but trust me. All will make sense in due time.

My plan is to launch Love Among Pigeons later this summer, after it has been made the victim of an editor’s sharp eyes and red pen. Right now my plan is to launch it as an ebook and possibly as a small paperback (still not sure on that one). I was also toying with the idea of putting out a hardcover edition of Wake. What do you guys think of that? Is it something you would be interested in or recommend?

Moving Forward

There are some things I’m excited to do with Love Among Pigeons that I didn’t do with Wake, such as a cover reveal and a coordinated launch tour. I’ll post more details about these things as they become available. If you’re involved in the blogging community and would be interesting in receiving an ARC, drop me a line here or on Twitter and I’ll add you to the list (not a commitment; just trying to gauge interest).

I’ll be doing some of the same things for Love Among Pigeons that I did for Wake, including posting related recipes online. Food has a very prominent role in this story, and I’ll have lots of foodie info to share with you guys.

The Audio Question

I’ve had a few people contact me over the past month asking about an audiobook edition of Wake. I’ll take that as a sign that people are enjoying it. But about the possibility of an audiobook — I’ve collected quotes from audiobook production companies, and it looks like an audiobook is beyond reach. Quotes range from $8000-10,000, almost ten times the amount that I initially invested in the launch of Wake. An investment like that is probably too big even for Kickstarter and Indiegogo, so for now I must say, with great regret, that no audiobook will be forthcoming.

Visual Stuff

Wake has a pinboard. I created it a while ago but forgot to do the smart thing and mention it somewhere… It’s got some nifty things on it, and a few Love Among Pigeons -centric pins as well.

Other Writings

Writing Love Among Pigeons gave me a much needed break from the PNR manuscript I’ve been struggling with. I took a look at the other day and… can’t remember where the hell I was going with it. I think that’s a sign. Back to the drawing board it is. What? It can’t be all good news.

I don't have allergies, personally. At least, none that have anything to do with food. I bring a lot of the treats I bake into work to share, though, and one of my coworkers was politely whining about the fact that he can't eat any of it because he … [Continue reading]
